Increasing numbers of psychotherapists are rooting their practice in an anti-colonial framework. Bearing witness to the genocide in Gaza has accelerated this important shift, deepening understandings of the injustice that underlies the colonization of historic Palestine and its connection to genocides on the lands on which many of us learn and practice therapy.
We are excited to offer this speaker series to highlight current anti-colonial thinking and action in the mental health field, with special consideration to its application to the Palestinian experience. We hope to connect anti-colonial mental health workers to one another to deepen and complicate our sense of responsibility toward Palestine, and all colonized peoples, as therapists. We also aim to introduce seekers of psychotherapy to the liberatory possibilities inherent in anti-colonial therapy.
As settlers on Turtle Island, we recognize that we, too, are directly implicated in ongoing colonialism and genocide on this land. This series has been created with the liberation of Palestine and of all colonised people in mind.
